What is Soluna’s meaning?

Soluna stands for the sun and moon. It’s named after a very sweet story of my two children, which I will tell here in a minute. Not only is it about them, but when I think about the sun and moon and how it relates to fitness and health, it has an all-encompassing meaning. Our health is so much more than just working out and what we eat. It’s the community we workout with, our family, friends, what we do to improve our lives, and how we can be of service to others. Health is how you perceive the world, what your daily practices are, who you surround yourself by, and what and how you choose to feed your body, mind, and soul.

Now onto the sweet story about my greatest gifts in life, my son Jasiah and my daughter Mataya. They are both now adults but this is when they were around the ages of 3 and 4. One Sunday afternoon we all decided to pile up in bed together and just take a rest. Mataya was snuggled up real close to me and Jasiah was at the foot of the bed (he’s a hot sleeper). Jasiah said, “I love you mommy.” And of course, I replied with, “I love you too!” Mataya said, “she’s, my mommy!” I replied, “yes, I am your mommy but I am Jasiah’s mommy too.” Mataya asked, “well why do you love him?” I said, “well I love him because he’s, my son.” Mataya put her tiny hands around my face and looked deep into my eyes and said, “And, I am your moon.” From this day forward they became my Sun and Moon, Soluna.
